Garden City Bengali Cultural Association
The name Garden City Bengali Cultural Association (GCBCA) is associated with the Durga Puja, Kali Puja and Saraswati Puja by the migrant Bengalis of New Gurgaon. New Gurgaon is situated in another corner of the town and is at a growing stage, it might not be blessed with many basic infrastructure or amenities but the puja fervour amongst the Bengalis residing here is no less.
In the year 2016, the Puja started with only ten families, it was the desire of these families that the second generation, their kids who were away from Kolkata should get to learn about their own Bengali culture & heritage.
Our five-day cultural extravaganza during Durga Puja has become extremely popular and well attended cultural fiesta in DLF Garden city, featuring events for kids, students, homemakers, corporates.
Both in house cultural programmes performed by members and the glitzy professional events attract equal crowds and applause. We have organised cultural programmes by famous artists from Kolkata and beyond.
This Association is a forum of like-minded cosmopolitan and enthusiastic people who have come together with a vision to create a forum for organizing and enjoying cultural events keeping in mind our Bengali culture and heritage. It started with a group of nostalgic Bengalis who wanted to have a feel of Kolkata during Durga Puja in Gurgaon.
Starting in 2016, the initial group was subsequently joined by a number of other people from various background but with a shared interest in art and culture.
GCBCA has now grown into a big organization with the aspiration to grow further. This is a formally registered organization which is run professionally by its members who have volunteered to take up extra workload for the sake of holding the great Durga puja and hold on to its cultural heritage.
From a 10 members organisation it has grown to 120-member organisation and expected to grow in leaps and bound.
The main event of GCBCA is Durga Puja, Kali Puja, Saraswati Puja, all members lunch, annual picnic, Poila Boishak and Rabindra Jayanti celebrations. These events are planned in such a way that everyone has something to enjoy. All days are packed with fun and engaging activities.
Besides this our organisation actively participate and stand up for different social causes like Tree Plantation, donating blankets to the poor, distribution of food and clothes to the poor and disabled.
We would request everyone to join our hands to make this organisation successful in its endeavour to hold on to our Bengali rich cultural heritage and work for the betterment of the poor and needy, with MAA Durga's blessing bestowed on us we will be completing our 8th year of puja and plan to grow into a big family of like-minded people with the same vision.
JAI MAA DURGA!!!
Our Approach
Garden City Bengali Cultural Association is our attempt to preserve our rich heritage, Bengali culture and promote our festivities.
Our motto is to provide a forum to the people of New Gurgaon for various social and cultural activities throughout the year.
We believe in a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
We strive to imbibe and nurture strong cultural and intellectual feelings among everyone. With the world moving at such a fast pace and most people not having enough time to spend for any cultural activity, we thought of providing all of them with a much sought after relaxation, that they might be hankering after throughout the year, and a space where they can feel at home, immerse themselves in music, drama, dance and any form of entertainment for the few days during the festivities of Durga Puja.
